History

Deborah Baranowski Kaplan is the Principal Architect and is licensed in the states of New Jersey and Florida.

Born and raised in the Garden State, Deborah at the age of 10 showed an interest in architecture by drawing plans for pretend clients.  Her 8th Grade Career Report expressed her desire to become an Architect and was the springboard and inspiration for the rest of her life.  Deborah wrote at 13 years old, “I would like to become an Architect since it would give me a chance to express myself in my work. I’d meet new people every day and find out their needs.  I could help families find a house and communities with a library, school or something else.” This is a commitment that has not changed and continues to guide her.

After receiving her Bachelor of Architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and working for multi-disciplined architectural firms, Deborah gained the qualifications to take the Architectural Registration Exam.  Passing this difficult seven-part exam permitted Deborah to achieve her life long dream of becoming an Architect in the state of New Jersey. Branching out to be licensed in the state of Florida was a natural next step based on a demographic analysis and demand for the specializations of Aging in Place.

Deborah Baranowski Kaplan, RA

With the experience of working for other architctural firms and having her Architectural License, Deborah founded BK Designs, LLC in 2003.  Always wanting to improve the services her company can provide, Deborah pursued The Aging in Place designation by the National Association of Home Builders.  This curriculum provides knowledge and resources on the planning and details that allow users, older and younger to be safe and welcomed in the new built environment.

As a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation,  she has been inspired and educated to preserve our treasured architectural past and has influenced many of my designs and provided countless resources.
